#LEAKING WINDOWS DURING HEAVY RAIN INSTALL#
My assumption is something when the install was done was not done correctly but I guess I am unsure where to start. I had a water come where the window meets the interior wood jam on the east side of my house and north side both leak. You may also notice small water stains if the problem has been occurring for awhile. Yesterday we had substances heavy driving rains. If at all possible, move carpeting, furniture, and other vulnerable possessions away from the window area. One of the most obvious signs of windows leaking in a stucco exterior home is water pooling on the window sill or floor beneath a window during heavy rainfall. We had mystery water leaking and crawling around. Go out in the next windy downpour and look. Place a rolled up towel or large rag in the area of the leak - to absorb that darn water - and change it regularly for a dry one. Its always useful to see whats happening when it is raining.
#LEAKING WINDOWS DURING HEAVY RAIN PRO#
Minimize water damage. If heavy rain makes window repair impossible for the time being (or if you’re waiting for a pro to arrive and fix the problem), meanwhile you can at least minimize water damage, which, unchecked, may lead to mold and rot. Make sure that the source of the leak is not actually your home’s roof, exterior walls, or upstairs bathroom.ĥ. Sometimes, the damage runs deeper, so you need to remove more layers of the walls if they’re damp. Hopefully, these don’t go too deep into the walls and can be removed with a surface layer of the wall. Sometimes, water that appears to be the result of a leaking window is really coming from another source altogether. To repair the wall, you’ll need to do scrape off any dirt, debris, or mold from the wall. Consider other possible sources of leakage. If the frame is the cause of your leaking window, there are several possible repair scenarios, as follows:Ĥ. If the pane has loosened over the years, renew the seal, using transparent silicone caulk.ģ. The glass of your window should be solidly sealed to a rubber or vinyl gasket within the frame.

And, as an informed consumer, do your homework by checking out these leaking window causes and cures.Ģ. That way, if you need to call a pro to take of your problem, you’ll have clear evidence as to the location and severity of the leak. Get out your phone and take a picture of the mess instead. When’s the worst time to fix a leaking window? Ditto. When’s the best time to spot a leaking window? In the middle of a rainstorm, of course.
